ABOUT

JEWELLERY CARE

Each Angel Bin Varo piece is made by hand, in small numbers, from raw metal and natural stone. Cared for well, it will stay luminous for years. The following will help it last.

General Care

  • Keep your piece out of water, and away from chlorine, bleach, vinegar, ammonia and other corrosive liquids.

  • When dressing, put your jewellery on last, after makeup, perfume, hairspray and lotions.

  • Remove your piece when washing your hands or applying sanitiser and lotion, and make sure your skin is dry before handling it again.

  • Store each piece in the pouch provided, away from other objects that could scratch its surface.

  • Keep your pieces in a cool, dry place, out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can affect the colour of the stones.

  • When needed, clean with a soft, lint-free cloth. If a piece is especially dirty, a little warm soapy water will lift it, or bring it to a trusted jeweller.

Special Materials

Many of our pieces are made from natural materials. These vary by nature, and we embrace that. Inconsistencies and irregularities are part of the material, not a defect.

Opal

Opal holds water within its structure, which gives it its shifting colour. It is softer than most stones and asks for a little more care.

  • Keep it away from heat, dry air and prolonged direct sunlight, which can cause it to crack over time.

  • Remove the piece before washing your hands, showering or swimming.

  • Avoid contact with perfume, lotion and cleaning products.

  • Store it on its own, protected from harder stones that could scratch it.

Rock Crystal

Rock crystal is clear quartz, hard but prone to chipping on its edges if knocked.

  • Store it apart from other pieces so its surface stays clear.

  • Clean with a soft cloth, or a little warm soapy water when needed.

  • Keep it away from sudden changes in temperature.

Oxidised (Blackened) Silver

Some pieces are finished in a dark, oxidised silver. This finish is applied by hand and is meant to wear and soften gently with time, which is part of the piece’s character.

  • Avoid rubbing the surface hard or using polishing cloths or silver dips, as these will lift the finish.

  • Keep it away from chlorine and corrosive products.

  • Clean only with a soft, dry cloth.

  • The finish can be renewed by us if you wish to return it to its original depth.

Gold & Silver

Our pieces are worked in yellow, red and white gold, and in silver. Each behaves a little differently, but the basics are shared.

  • Remove your piece before swimming, bathing or exercise.

  • Keep it away from perfume, lotion and household chemicals.

  • Polished silver may tarnish naturally over time. A soft cloth will restore most of its shine.

  • Red gold carries a warm tone from its copper content and may deepen slightly with age, which is natural.

  • Clean with a soft, lint-free cloth, or warm soapy water when needed.

Platinum

Platinum is the densest and most durable of the precious metals. It does not tarnish, and it does not wear away. When scratched, the metal is moved rather than lost.

  • With wear, platinum develops a soft matte patina from fine surface marks. Many prefer it this way. If you would rather return it to a bright finish, we can repolish it for you.

  • Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush, then dry with a soft cloth.

  • Still remove your piece during heavy or abrasive work to avoid deeper scratches.

  • Store it on its own, as platinum is hard enough to scratch softer metals and stones.

Rhodium-Plated & Grey Gold

Some white and grey gold pieces are finished with a thin layer of rhodium, which gives a bright, reflective white. This plating is a surface, not the metal beneath, and it wears gradually with daily friction. This is normal, and the finish can be reapplied.

  • Avoid chlorine, perfume and harsh chemicals, which strip the plating faster.

  • Never use silver dips or abrasive polishing cloths, as these lift the rhodium.

  • Clean gently with mild soapy water and a soft cloth.

  • When the white begins to soften or the metal beneath shows through, return the piece to us to be re-plated.

Diamonds

Diamond is the hardest natural material, yet a sharp, direct blow can still chip it, and the setting that holds it can loosen over time.

  • Diamonds attract oil and grease, which dull their light. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush, working gently behind the stone where film collects.

  • Handle the piece by the metal rather than the stone, as skin oils settle quickly on the surface.

  • Avoid knocking the stone against hard surfaces, and check the setting from time to time.

Stones Set in the Piece

Many of our pieces hold small stones set along their surface. Over a long life of wear, a setting can loosen.

  • Check your piece from time to time, and avoid knocking it against hard surfaces.

  • If a stone feels loose, stop wearing the piece and contact us. A small adjustment in time prevents a loss.

Repairs & Adjustments

We take pride in how each piece is made, and we want you to wear it for a long time. Repairs are sometimes needed, and we are glad to help.

Once received, your piece is assessed by hand. Where damage has been caused by wear or mishandling, repairs are chargeable; we provide a quote first and begin only once you agree. Every repair is checked before it is returned to you.

If you cannot bring your piece to us in person and need guidance on how to send it safely, please contact us at info@angelbinvaro.com.

Packaging

Every piece bought directly from Angel Bin Varo arrives in our box and protective pouch, wrapped to travel safely and to make the moment it is opened part of the piece itself.
